FROM THE PRESIDENT

Resilient rangelands are the key to our future. With over 70% of Australia’s landmass being rangelands, it is crucial that these landscapes are able to adapt to global changes.

The Australian Rangeland Society is working towards our next national biennial conference to be held in Canberra in 2019. By holding the conference in the national capital, we hope this will help place rangeland landscapes, industries and communities on the agenda towards achieving resilient rangelands for the future.

NEW REPORT LAYS SOLID FOUNDATION FOR ON-GROUND ACTION IN PILBARA

Greening Australia has recently released a new report to guide on-ground conservation actions in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The Conservation Action Planning (CAP) process seeks to provide a framework for planning and implementing projects across the region in a coordinated manner based on agreed priorities and targets.

RESTORE, REGENERATE, REVEGETATE CONFERENCE

Members of ARS working in the area of landscape regeneration may be interested in the outcomes from the Restore, Regenerate, Revegetate: Restoring Ecological Processes, Ecosystems and Landscapes in a Changing World Conference held at the University of New England last February. More than 360 delegates attended and the Conference featured 190 presentations, covering the full spectrum of topics associated with environmental restoration.

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY

Do you have web site management skills? The Australian Rangeland Society is currently looking for a Web Site Editor to manage its website (https://www.austrangesoc.com.au). This is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in web-based information management and the sustainable use of Australia’s rangelands.

Ron Hacker provides an update from the Publications Committee regarding the Web site editor vacancy, challenges with uploading the Society’s publication archive and latest news regarding The Rangeland Journal.

SOCIETY FOR RANGE MANAGEMENT ANNUAL MEETINGS 2018 AND 2019

The 2018 SRM Annual Meeting was recently held with great success in Sparks, Nevada focussing on the theme of Empowerment through Applied Science. The next Annual Meeting is scheduled for February 10 -14, 2019 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
