Don Burnside, a distinguished Fellow!

July 31, 2025

Don Burnside needs little introduction to the Australian Rangeland Society’s community. However, as a freshly minted Fellow of the Society, it’s time to celebrate his contributions.

Don’s distinguished service and significant contributions to the art, science and communication of rangeland management was recognised at the recent International Rangeland Conference where he was officially bestowed the title of Fellow.

He has made an outstanding service to the Society over the decades as Editor of the Range Management Newsletter, President of the WA Branch, Director and Finance & Audit Officer, and member of the Publications Committee. He has served on the organising committees of two International Rangeland Congresses and on the International Continuing Committee.

Through his professional expertise Don has contributed to the knowledge of rangeland animal production and, particularly, to the extension of sound rangeland management practice to the pastoral community in Western Australia. As a private consultant, he has contributed at a senior level to numerous reports of national or regional significance to the sustainable use of Australia’s rangelands. At all times he has given generously of his time and wisdom in support of younger colleagues.
