As 2024 draws to a close, it’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the final stretch of preparations for the International Rangeland Congress to be held in Adelaide in 2025. With Australia winning the bid to host its third Congress back in 2019, it feels like this event has been years in the making—but now it’s just around the corner.

The Organising Committee, under the capable leadership of Don Burnside, has been working tirelessly to ensure the Congress is a resounding success. We extend our heartfelt thanks to them and wish them all the best in these final stages. To our members, we need your help to make this event truly remarkable: spread the word, register, and consider lending a hand. As a session chair, reviewer, or wherever you want to get involved.

One of the highlights of the Congress for me will be the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Australian Rangeland Society, held on the opening night. The 50th Anniversary Party Planners are preparing an unforgettable evening where we’ll honour the Society’s rich history, share cherished memories, and look ahead to the future. If you have photos, stories, or other contributions to share, please reach out to Council.

On a recent visit to Charleville in southwest Queensland and once a hub for rangeland research, I was again struck by the beauty and uniqueness of the Mulgalands. This special landscape holds a significant place in our rangeland history and continues to inspire. Below, photos photos showcasing the distinctive vegetation of this part of the rangeland.
