Publications Committee Welcomes New Chair

The ARS Council is pleased to announce that Steven Bray has accepted the role of Chair of the Publications Committee.

Steven brings extensive experience to the position. He is a long-standing member of the Australian Rangeland Society, serves as an Associate Editor of The Rangeland Journal, and has developed a strong professional working relationship with the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Paul Novelly. In his role with the Queensland DPI, he oversees projects ranging from pasture ecology to production-focused, and as such has a good understanding of rangeland systems in Australia.

Steven succeeds Bradd Witt, who has stepped down from the role due to increasing work commitments. Since taking on the position in early 2022, Bradd has provided strong leadership through several significant milestones, including the publication of The Rangeland Journal‘s successful Carbon and Environmental Service Markets Collection, an increased focus on social media engagement, and the successful management of the 2025 website outage.

Council extends its sincere thanks to Bradd for his valuable contributions and leadership over the past several years and welcomes Steven to his new role.

Dr Steven Bray

I have worked for the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (and various other Department names) for over 30 years in research, development and management roles, in both regional and Brisbane offices. I am currently Regional Manager Extensive Livestock Systems for southern Queensland, based at the EcoSciences Precinct in Brisbane.

Much of my career was working in teams with internal and external collaborators as a sustainable grazing systems scientist working on significant projects at the grazing business scale investigating carbon sequestration, greenhouse gas emissions, woodland thickening, grazing management and giant rats tail grass ecology.

In my current departmental role, I oversee a suite of collaborative projects working on sown pastures, drought and reef extension, ecosystem services and carbon opportunities, integration of trees into productive grazing businesses, beef genetics, grazing land assessment tools and FutureBeef.

I have been a member of the Australian Rangeland Society since my university days and have been an Associate Editor of The Rangeland Journal for quite a few years.
