As you all know, 2026 is the International Year of Rangeland and Pastoralists. A recent article by Beef Central gives great overview of the opportunities this recognition brings to the rangelands and its people.
The IYRP has developed monthly themes for 2026 (see below), and each month the FAO publishes a summary of the theme from a global perspective as part of its Pastoralist Knowledge Hub newsletter. In the March newsletter, the focus was on livelihoods and the economic contributions of pastoralism. This newsletter included a selection of articles highlighting the role of pastoral systems in supporting livelihoods, markets, and sustainable development. One paper of particular interest is entitled Pastoralism as a Viable Economic System, not a Last Resort. If you are interested in subscribing to the Pastoralist Knowledge Hub newsletter please visit this link.
